After a wild windy night at the Titahi Bay Surfclub we were up early and excited to be nearing the finish line! 15 days, 1700 km of running the North Island we have it! We finished at Island Bay at 12:30pm.
We started today up Mt Kau Kau and one group ran up across the hills behind Johnsonville then through the Northland, the Botanical Garden down past Parliament and then to the Wellington Railway Station. It was a wild windy Wellington day, the wind was so strong across the top of the hill range. The second group started at the Railway Station where we did a collection and then headed along the trail up Lambton Quay and back along the waterfront down past Te Papa. From there the group ran up to Ronald McDonald House in Newton. Andrea and Rebecca from Auckland Ronald McDonald House flew down this morning to especially meet up with us there. The group was given a talk and tour of the Ronald McDonald House outlining once again what an essential and awesome facility this place is, the families who spend time here all call it their second home.
From Ronald McDonald House we ran as a group the last 3 1/2 kms out to Island Bay to the monument to end the North Island Trail is in Stafford Park. We were greeted by a great group of supporters! Our incredible journey was over.
It was a fairly quiet drive home with weary boys dozing away, we did spot a McFall Fuel tanker on the Kapiti Expressway who we tooted and waved at to express our gratitude to for all our diesel that McFall Fuel provided for us on our journey. This Te Araroa Challenge for Ronald McDonald House has been a huge adventure and a huge success!!
